In Nike’s latest efforts to become more sustainable. They have come out with four brand new silhouettes that are all produced using waste material that would have otherwise been thrown away- Space Hippie.
This is very similar to Adidas’ Parley collaboration, which uses plastics that have been recovered from the sea. Suggesting a growing demand and awareness from consumers and producers alike for more environmentally friendly products.
The collection consists of four shoes, that are creatively named the Nike Space Hippie 01, 02, 03, and 04. They all share the same grey-ish color, with orange accents, and a spotted blue sole.
Its design is said to be inspired by life on mars, hence the name Space Hippie. As mars have very scarce resources and no kind of resupply mission, which could be what earth starts to become like if humanity isn’t careful.
The knitted upper consists of Space Waste Yarn that is made from 85-90% recycled materials. And the Crater Foam sole is made from 12% Nike Grind Rubber, as well as a combination of scraps and shavings of Nike’s many different foams.
Every detail has been considered on these models, even the box is made of recycled material and is marked in a plant-based ink.
The Nike Space Hippie collection has already been released in Europe back on the 11th of June. But it will be finally dropping in America on the 3rd of July. The 01, 02, 03, and 04 will retail for $130, $150, $180, $130 respectively. And will be available via Nike’s SNKRS app.
