The pros and cons of Nike By You

Nike By You has been around for nearly two decades at the time of writing this and is easily the most successful shoe customizing service out there. Although Adidas, Vans and many more companies have tried, Nike By You is head and shoulders above its competition, working as the gold standard for the market.

The obvious positive about being able to customize your own Nike, is that you can make your own colorway, how you would like it, and even have your name on the shoes. With Nike’s easy to use customizing format, you can sink hours into designing your shoe, and with Nikes wide range of shoes to choose from, there really is something for everyone. Recently, Nike has put a lot of time into the Nike By You service, now giving you a 3D rendering of what the shoe would look like, and they are constantly adding brand new sneakers to customize.

On the downside, these customized versions of the shoes are a higher price than the normal colorways of the model, and the 3D render is not too realistic, with some of the colors looking very different in real life. As well as this, if you were to buy a pair, as they must be made specially for you, they can take up to 4 weeks to come, instead of the option to have next day delivery like normal Nike models.

The custom shoe market looks to be getting less popular, with less hype surrounding it these days, and Adidas actually stopping their MiAdidas line, 19 years after its inception, but I think most of us can agree that the ability to make our own version of a shoe is a pretty cool thing, so let’s hope Nike By You can avoid the fate of its competition.
