Having originally released back in 2009. The LeBron made its return late last year in the “Red Carpet” colorway. However, it was only in May of this year that fans started to take notice.
This was thanks to the Nike LeBron 7 “Lakers” colorway that was originally worn by James for this year’s media day. Which managed to become of the most hyped releases of the first half of this year after the previous LeBron 7 colorways sat on shelves.
Coming in an all-leather upper with yellow and purple detailing. One reason why the shoe was so popular was that it was a Nike LeBron sneaker with LA Lakers colors.
Although we are used to this colorway on Kobe models. LeBron’s sneakers have never previously donned yellow and purple. So in a similar way to the South Beach 8’s, everyone wanted a pair.
Furthermore, all the other retro releases have been of previous LeBron 7 colorways. That was relatively easy to get hold of so those who wanted a pair likely picked them up back in 2009.
What will be interesting, now that the LeBron 7 has started to gain some serious attention, is whether they will be able to hold on to it, or whether the Lakers colorway was a one-off.
Especially with the Nike LeBron 8 expected to release in plenty of colorways over the next year. Which could possibly include a re-release of the “South Beach” 8’s. The LeBron signature sneaker line might be making one of the biggest comebacks of the year.
