The Adidas Superstar was created in 1969, as a low top version of one of Adidas’ already successful basketball shoes, the Pro Model, but it didn’t gain its legendary status from its use on the court. Although the shell toe was for practical use, it was what gave the model the fashionable look it was known for when it transitioned into a lifestyle sneaker. Now you can find it on everyone’s feet as it remains part of the Adidas Originals line.
The early rap group Run DMC took the shoe to new heights with their continued appraisal of the shoe, and its feature in the song “My Adidas.” Since then, Adidas have made the group their own version of the shoe with no laces, just like how they used to rock them.
The Superstar has been produced in nearly every color, with the original all white and all black pairs being the most well-known. It has had a version with the rubber midsole changed for boost, and at one point, Adidas swapped out the laces for elastic straps, to great success.
The Adidas Superstar is a simple shoe, and because of this, it can normally be bought for no more than $100 but also can be found for as low as $50. Although it is popular, the Superstar is still easy to find at every sneaker store, in both men’s and women’s sizes.
This model is sporty enough to be used for light exercise or a gym session, whilst being classy enough to wear in everyday life or on a night out, so it’s no wonder that when Adidas is mentioned, the classic Superstar instantly comes to mind.
